Who am I?
My name is Ashley. I've been an actress and singer since I was five years old. You may have seen me on a couple of TV shows on Nickelodeon. I played a ditzy & distracted assistant/best friend on a show called "True Jackson, VP", then played a popular surfer girl/overachiever on "Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures".
I went to public elementary school &, like a lot of kids today, I was picked on by other kids in my class. There was a group of girls who would make fun of the way I walked & talked. How do I know this? The girl who I called my "best friend" became one of them. I had to leave school frequently to go to auditions & performances, & since I was gone so much, she found new people to hang out with: the girls who were making fun of me. Needless to say, we drifted apart.
I've also been affected by cyberbullying. People have said awful things to me on Twitter. Every now & then, I'll get mean messages, but I always reply with "Thanks for taking the time out of your day to let me know that! Have a great one." One thing I've learned? Always combat negativity with positivity.
Being picked on is difficult, but my story doesn't even come remotely close to the millions of kids who are being bullied today. I get messages daily that tell me the awful situations kids are stuck in. Some are being bullied because people think they're ugly or weird, & others have absolutely no idea why they're being bullied. Regardless of the reason, bullying has to stop. I don't want to read anymore messages or see anymore news casts that say people have taken their lives because they were bullied. It is an epidemic that needs to be stopped in its tracks. TODAY.
A lot of the tweets I see say "I feel so alone" or "Nobody understands what I'm going through". I created LISTEN so that kids would have a place to talk about what has happened to them, & inspire, help, and support others who are going through the same thing.
I hope that this website helps people in someway, or at least inspires others to be more kind towards one another.
Remember... "Cynicism... doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were gonna get. But if you work really hard & you're kind, amazing things will happen." -Conan O'Brien
